The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is excited to announce that submissions are now open for the 2024 Outreach Fellowship Award! Established in 2019 and headquartered in Benguérir, Morocco, APNI is a non-profit organization advancing plant nutrition to foster a resilient and food-secure Africa.
Benefits of the APNI Outreach Fellowship Award
Two exceptional African scientists, extension specialists, or educators will each receive a grant of USD 5,000.
This Fellowship aims to support education, training, and communication initiatives that enhance the use and efficiency of plant nutrients in African agroecosystems.
Eligibility Criteria for APNI Outreach Fellowship Award
- The award is open to full-time scientists, extension specialists, or educators affiliated with an African NARES institution (National Agricultural Research and Extension System), university, non-profit organization, or the private sector. Students are not eligible.
- Applicants must present a compelling plan that addresses knowledge gaps or synthesizes existing information to accelerate the adoption of improved soil fertility management practices in Africa.
- Preference will be given to ongoing research aligning with APNI’s high-priority initiatives, including:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship
- Nutrient and Water Management Innovations for Resilient Agriculture in African Drylands
- Soil Health Nutrient Management and Diagnostics
- Precision Farming
- Farmer-led On-farm Innovation
- Collaboration and partnerships will be looked upon favorably. Interested and qualified female applicants are encouraged to apply.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following in English or French:
- Project Description: Outline how the Fellowship will enhance outreach or implementation of soil fertility management in agricultural systems. Detail any new initiatives, data synthesis, communication tools, training events, or travel plans that the award will fund. Provide enough detail to assess the work’s originality, innovative approaches, and potential impact.
- Letters of Support: Two signed letters of support on official letterhead, including contact information. It is expected that one of the letters must be from the applicant’s supervisor.
- Resume/CV: Include academic degrees and relevant publications or communication products related to soil fertility management.
- Final Report: A short report on the use of funds to support the proposal’s outcomes will be required at the end of the award period.
