The City of Coquitlam has a great opportunity for a team player who is passionate about working with animals. We are seeking one to two enthusiastic Animal Shelter Attendants to work at the Coquitlam Animal Shelter. This positon has a combination of manual and animal care work. You will be responsible for feeding, handling and caring for all impounded dogs, cats and other small animals, as well as cleaning kennels and cages. Providing orientation and direction to volunteers, and performing a variety of routine clerical and office support tasks. Work is performed under general supervision and some independence of judgement and action is exercised within established operating policies and procedures.
Our ideal candidate must have sound knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for the care and feeding of dogs, cats and small animals; sound knowledge of the procedures, rules and regulations related to the work; working knowledge of the medications and routine medical treatments for injured or ill dogs, cats and other mall animals; ability to carry out routine tasks in feeding and caring for dogs and cats; ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public; ability to understand and carry out work according to oral instructions and to work with minimal supervision; ability to provide orientation and direction to volunteers; ability to complete non-complex forms and reports; and the ability to lift and carry bulky objects such as bags of feed, hoses and large dogs.
Successful candidates will have a class 5 driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia, completion of the 12th school grade, plus sound experience working with animals, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a team oriented, can-do attitude and professional education and experience in Animal Care & Control.

The City offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. A CUPE hourly rate of $26.87 – $31.56 per hour (2022 rates) per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits is offered. Applicants under consideration may be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation.
