Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans to determine project specifications.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and other materials according to project requirements.
- Install structures and fixtures such as walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, cabinets, and trim.
- Repair or replace damaged or worn-out wooden components.
- Ensure structural integrity and quality craftsmanship in all carpentry work.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely and effectively.
- Select appropriate wood types and materials for each project based on their characteristics and intended use.
- Collaborate with other construction professionals, such as architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure project specifications are met.
- Adhere to building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the proper storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and clients to understand project requirements and provide progress updates.
- Estimate materials, time, and costs for each project accurately.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during the construction process.
- Continuously update your knowledge and skills in carpentry techniques and materials.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Carpenter, with a strong understanding of carpentry techniques and practices.
- Proficiency in using carpentry tools, both hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans.
- Strong mathematical skills to calculate measurements, angles, and materials.
- Knowledge of different wood types, their characteristics, and appropriate applications.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity to handle heavy materials, work in various positions, and operate machinery.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure precise measurements and quality craftsmanship.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with other construction professionals and clients.
- Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship or vocational training program is preferred.
- Relevant certifications or licenses may be required based on local regulations and the scope of work.
Tasks
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
