Position Summary

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the Wastewater Operator role will take ownership of all process aspects of the Wastewater and Scrubber operations and preventative maintenance, including decanting system, while following all site Health, Safety & Environmental policies and initiatives.

Wastewater/Air Treatment

POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and operates the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Air Treatment System, and Yellow Grease processing System located in the new building. Makes process changes based on collected data analysis and visual inspection; troubleshoots process and makes process decisions; keeps the Environmental Supervisor, Chief Engineer, and Plant Manager up-to-date on all important operational, environmental and safety issues and events in a timely manner.
  • Optimize plant processes, equipment, and chemical systems to maintain high process performance and efficiency, regulatory compliance, and minimal operating costs.
  • Maintains and records data in WWTP/Scrubber Logbooks, checklists and computer databases.
  • Collects WWTP/Scrubber monitoring samples and completes Chain of Custody forms as needed

Grease Decanting

  • Receive, hook up grease trailers and steam heat for pumping off. Fill the hot house with drums and pails of grease. Heat hot house, melt the grease and pump it to the decanting tanks.
  • Ensure all HACCP paperwork for Grease Receiving Procedures and Grease Processing is properly maintained.
  • Operate Yellow Grease processing equipment, collect samples for impurities testing, perform Quality Control testing on decanting samples. Ensure proper communication with Production Supervisors and the Control Room Operators.

General

  • Ensure Wastewater Treatment Plant, Grease processing equipment, and surrounding areas are kept tidy at all times. Performs routine plant cleaning during assigned shift.
  • Loads, unloads and stores materials, chemicals, and supplies; check chemical inventory and inform the Environmental Supervisor of needed chemicals and supplies.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments in a supportive capacity. May be required to help other departments from time-to-time.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of wastewater, scrubber, venturi, decanting operation SOP's.
  • Assist Shift Supervisors/ production staff in plant troubleshooting as needed.
  • Assist in plant 5S initiatives.
  • Support environmental health and safety initiatives through hazard reporting
  • Other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Class 1 WWTP Certification is an asset or commitment to complete the certification course within 6 months of hire date
  • Flexible and calm temperament to handle a fast paced environment
  • 2 to 3 years manufacturing experience. Rendering experience is an asset
  • Understanding of HACCP and its application to manufacturing.
  • Good initiative and strong team player.
  • Self-motivated and capable of delivering outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work nights and weekends
  • Must have the ability to lift, push and pull between 10 to 70 pounds.
