This is patrolling and security work performed in Municipal parks and recreation buildings and sites. The work involves patrolling sites by foot or motor vehicle to prevent and take appropriate action against incidents such as rowdyism, drinking, vandalism and suspicious loitering; providing factual information relating to regulations to park users; performing minor maintenance and repair tasks to facilities; closing sports fields to users in inclement weather as necessary and submitting related reports. In addition, the work involves assisting in the supervision and training of parks patrol staff and delivering Municipal mail. An incumbent exercises considerable tact and diplomacy and independence of action and judgement in day-to-day functions, but unusual or difficult problems are referred to a supervisor who reviews work performance for conformance to established practices and procedures and services rendered. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by sounded related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Considerable knowledge of Park facilities in terms of their location, uses and hours of operation. Sound knowledge of the policies, procedures, park regulations and related by-laws governing the work performed; knowledge of methods and materials, tools and equipment used in minor building repair work. Skill in the use of cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment; ability to assist in the supervision and training of parks patrol staff. Ability to deal tactfully, diplomatically and effectively with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff; to understand and follow oral and written instructions and prepare and maintain non-complex records and reports related to the work. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
