Position: Payroll Manager

Location: Remote

Duration: 5 Months

Job Description:

Reporting to the VP of Corporate Accounting, the Payroll Manager is responsible for managing a team of Payroll Specialists who are responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the company’s payroll (75,000-85,000 employees) including hourly, management team members, bonus payrolls, garnishments, and payroll taxes. This position will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing all of the steps of the payroll process to ensure accurate and timely completions of payroll transactions; ensure that all payroll interfaces and uploads are accurate; manage payroll functions that include account reconciliations, audit preparation, and conducting audits to ensure SOX compliance; assist in identifying, testing, and implementing procedures for more efficient and effective payroll and employment tax processes; develop, document and implement a cross-training environment with the payroll team members. This position is the liaison between Human Resources, Field Operations, Accounting/Finance and Payroll vendors to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting. Leads the payroll tax team who work with the payroll tax provider to ensure the Company is in compliance with state tax regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate calculation and processing of wages, overtime, deductions and garnishments and make certain Payroll is completed in a timely manner and is in compliance with federal and state regulations and wage and hour laws
  • Develop and maintain standard payroll operating procedures and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Selects, trains, develops, and assesses individual and team performance, and provides clear and timely feedback.
  • Provide leadership and development to Payroll team members by identifying areas for individual and team improvement for coaching and developing specific skills
  • Critically review and analyze current payroll and garnishment processes in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
  • Provide technical payroll guidance to staff members and senior management
  • Oversee the maintenance of pay rate data in the payroll system due to regulatory changes
  • Continually monitor the adequacy and effectiveness of workflow procedures and internal controls and enhance as necessary
  • Lead problem resolution by analyzing the root cause of identified issues and improvements to payroll processes
  • Prepare and perform payroll audits
  • Assist Restaurant and Restaurant Support Center Team Members in research and resolution of payroll transactions when escalated by the Resource Center
  • Develops applicable training programs.
  • Stays abreast of multi-state regulatory requirements and company policies

Required Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of payroll operations
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or management role with Payroll oversight
  • Experience in managing a team through demonstrating inclusive leadership and execution focus competencies
  • Strong knowledge of Federal, State and local payroll laws and compliance required
  • Working knowledge of UKG Pro
  • Experience with a conversion or implementation considered a plus. Experience with other large scale HRIS/Payroll systems will be considered
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Ability to deliver high quality customer service consistently in a professional manner
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills
  • Effective team building capability and ability to guide, coach, and develop people
  • Sets appropriate example for staff by maintaining a positive attitude regarding customers, leadership, and the work at hand
  • Ability to manage the conflict/issue resolution process
  • Ability to make quick decisions and maintain objectivity under pressure
  • Ability to identify and assess talent.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Ability to handle confidential information

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must have APA Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), CPP preferred.
  • Audit and compliance experience preferred
