The Automation Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing the industrial process of manufacturing for our customers while maintaining automated machinery used in the process . In this role you will manage process improvement projects that focus on cost reduction and increasing the profits of the company.
Specific duties for this role include working with engineering teams to develop systems of automation; work alongside other departments to develop automation plans that align with business goals; lead the implementation of changes or new technology and oversee the quality assurance (QA) process.

Job Description
The Senior Manager, Power and Embedded Control Systems is responsible for leading and directing a global cross-functional team of System and Functional Architects to enable the Power and Control Business of Rockwell Automation to deliver simplified and differentiated products and solutions that solve real world problems for our customers. The team partners with the business and development organizations to enable us to bring a platform of products and offerings to our customers plays a key role in setting up the business for success in alignment with the business strategy. The scope of this role encompasses leadership responsibility for the people, technology/platforming strategies, front-end enablement activities, and plays a key role in the development of a strong technical talent pipeline, organizational development, and continued process improvements.
Information Processing Capability
- Manages a cross-functional team of Architects assembled to work as a high-performance team. (Hardware, Embedded Software, Firmware, Motor Control, Mechanical, and Power disciplines)
- Leads all drive product-level aspects of common architecture platforming strategy, technology decisions, enablement roadmaps, technology roadmaps, system integration, and new product introduction enablement activities (NPI-E)
- Leads and influences cross-business unit technical alignment, leverage, and collaboration.
- Stays aligned with the rest of Rockwell from a technology, system release, and Connected Enterprise perspective.
- Delivers and supports the deployment of scalable, enabling, and re-usable engineering content to the development team and associated knowledge capture.
- Acts as a “Product Owner” for the SAFe team of Architects and owns the roadmaps, horizon plans, backlog for the deliverables, and dependencies of the team (including high-level time-lines, investments, and priorities) and supports Lean Portfolio Management processes as appropriate in the SAFe working model
- Drives competitive differentiation and cost aligned with market and customer value propositions and helps facilitates the collection, knowledge capture, accessibility, and awareness of technical competitive intelligence
- Owns management and oversight of Technology Investigation Projects (TIP), processes, and facilitates consistent execution and stakeholder management
- Leads IP management, processes, and KPIs in areas of power conversion and drive related technologies for the Power and Control Business and fosters innovation across the organization.
- Leads and facilitates industry thought leadership with standards participation, technical publications, and engagement strategies.
- Supports the business on technical aspects of third-party partnering and inorganic evaluations, integration, and execution strategies.
- Owns the technical aspects of the distributed development partner strategy, relationship oversite, and engagement processes (Engineering Services, Factored Product, Technology Partners, University Partners, …)
- Ensures that stakeholders receive appropriate focus, attention, and communications that clearly link our work to the business strategy and creating customer value
- Drives organizational performance through continuous improvement, strategic projects, and KPIs
- Supports the UI and Enterprise Integration in delivering the SMART Device and Digital Strategy

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical discipline, or equivalent work experience
- Legal authorization to work in the US, Canada, or is required based upon the location of the selected candidate. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
- Up to 10% travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or relevant advanced degree
- Typical requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering leadership.
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years working with global teams – Proven Leadership and change management experience in a globally focused environment.
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years working in a matrix environment – Proven ability to influence change and build effective partnerships in a matrix environment
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of product development management
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise is at least of the core engineering disciplines on the team (Hardware, Embedded Software, Firmware, Motor Control, Mechanical, and Power, etc.) with emphasis on the Firmware and Embedded Software areas
- Understands how customers use our products and how they fit into target applications and system environments.
- Understands the competitive landscape for our products and technologies.
- Demonstrates ability to manage technology, foster innovation and drive differentiation.
- Stays current in the state of the art, technologies, and talent.
- Successful in data-driven continuous improvement
