Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Chair Research, Department of Dentistry, the Research Project Coordinator combines the roles of project coordination and research support within the Department of Dentistry. As Project Coordinator, you will work closely with the Associate Chair and Principal Investigators to document the department’s formulated strategic plan for research and help capture the identified priorities and activities to be implemented. The Project Coordinator remains up-to-date on the University of Alberta policies (UAPPOL) and the funding agencies’ policies and procedures and is knowledgeable about the requirements for different funding opportunities and submission processes.
Duties
Supports the department’s research project planning process and implementation identified priorities to achieve research grant and project coordination for members of the department.
Supports and participates in the department's strategic planning process and implementation of identified priorities and project directions.
Facilitates discussions with and between researchers, VPRI contact, and applicable stakeholder regarding these priorities that lead to project development.
Develops a thorough understanding of the department's research operations, researchers and research activities.
Supports the communication and negotiation with agencies to find opportunities for and solutions to research funding issues involving Principal Investigators and funding agencies.
Serves as the principal source of information in the Department to research project teams and students, staff, and faculty on initiation of project activities.
Works with project management spreadsheet to maintain project timeline and track other project-related information. Track outcomes and actions for internal project meetings and send reminders.
Track and update Associate Chair, Research on performance metrics.
Provides a varying degree of support to faculty and graduate students when assisting with scholarship and awards application processes.
Preparing award letters and providing feedback to unsuccessful applicants in collaboration with the Committee Chair.
Provides researchers with operational assistance such as arranging meetings, logistics, initiating, creating and updating application forms, drafting or updating terms of references, developing scoring rubrics in collaboration with the Committee Chairs and the Associate Chair Research.
Maintains database of Department research activity, including awards, published manuscripts, projects, abstracts, or other scholarly work by all faculty with primary appointments in the Department of Dentistry.
Creates, updates, and evaluates content for the Research section of the School of Dentistry website.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or educational field and 3-5 years of experience in an academic environment with experience in research administration support is required. Masters with relevant experience is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience with/strong proficiency in using academic research databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, DOAJ, etc.
Requires understanding or awareness of scientific and basic research concepts and fundamentals.
Demonstrated ability to interact on a professional level with stakeholders
Ability to handle and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with experience tracking timelines and monitoring projects, and supporting budgets and evaluation.
Success-oriented with demonstrable knowledge and expertise in supporting multi-disciplinary researchers in the administration of research-related projects and activities.
Ability to synthesize, analyze, and interpret diverse concepts and information/data.
Ability to work independently with diverse groups of individuals.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
Computer proficiency in a Windows environment using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Google Suite applications (Google Docs, Sheets and Slides), Zoom/Google Meets and File Maker.
Excellent writing and oral communication, interpersonal, and time management skills are required.
