Job Description Overview
Defence is looking to hire a Research Scientist to drive the development and optimization of new antibody-drug conjugate products for various cancer indications. This position will contribute to multiple projects within the pipeline. Therefore, the chosen individual should possess and provide technical input and work strategically in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. This position requires a creative individual with a passion for technical learning and curiosity. The successful candidate should be well organized, and able to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. The position also requires interaction with individuals from a variety of expertise.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in day-to-day laboratory operations
• Assist in the development, synthesis, and evaluation of new products based on Defence’s needs
• Analyze and characterize samples
• Exploring new applications for Defence’s range of products
• Document and update findings in electronic notebook
• Present oral and written reports to his/her superiors
• Keep current with relevant scientific and technical developments
• Take on additional responsibilities as seen fit for purpose
Required Experience and Knowledge
• Must have worked on engineering, developing and testing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs)
• Must have an experience in synthesizing small molecules and ADC-related linkers
• Experience working in a laboratory setting
• Excellent analytical thinking skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Must have a sense of urgency and be deadline-oriented
• Demonstrates efficient project planning and attention to details
Bilingual in English and French and strong communication skills written and spoken (English especially)
• Ability to work independently within a team environment
Desired Experience and Knowledge
• Research experience working with ADCs
• Research experience working with chemotherapeutics and ADC linkers
• Have the ability to run cell-based assays
Required Qualifications
• PhD with 1+ years industry experience or PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, or chemical engineering
• Must be able to travel to the US and Europe
• Must be eligible to work in Canada or eligible for a work permit
