Responsibilities:
- Meat Preparation: Receive and inspect meat deliveries from suppliers, ensuring the quality and freshness of the products. Skillfully cut and portion meat into various cuts, such as steaks, roasts, chops, and ground meat, based on customer preferences and market demands.
- Customer Service: Greet customers, answer their inquiries, and provide personalized assistance in selecting the right cuts of meat for their recipes or cooking needs. Offer cooking tips, recommendations, and information on various meat products.
- Specialty Items: Prepare specialty items, such as sausages, marinated meats, and pre-seasoned cuts, to provide customers with a diverse selection of options for their culinary preferences.
- Food Safety and Hygiene: Follow strict food safety practices and adhere to sanitation guidelines to ensure the freshness and safety of all meat products. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the butcher area and display cases.
- Inventory Management: Monitor meat inventory levels and coordinate with the management team to place orders for restocking as needed. Ensure proper storage and rotation of meat products to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
- Pricing and Labeling: Accurately price and label meat products according to company guidelines. Ensure clear and informative labels that include product details, cuts, and storage recommendations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain meat cutting equipment, such as band saws, grinders, and slicers, in a safe and efficient manner. Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Compliance and Regulations: Comply with all health and safety regulations, food handling guidelines, and local and federal meat processing requirements.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members, including other butchers, sales associates, and management, to ensure seamless operations and excellent customer service.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Retail Butcher or in a similar meat cutting role is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of different meat cuts, portioning, and meat preparation techniques.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills to interact with customers effectively.
- Food safety certification or training is a plus.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to handle and cut meat efficiently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in weighing and packaging meat products.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours as needed.
